Sunscreens are used to save the skin but it’s not the only part get harmed by the rays. Your eyes also need a protection from the harmful rays of the sun.

Sun light constitute of waves of different wavelengths having positive and negative effects for the human being. Ultraviolet rays are one of harming rays and can injure your eyes. These rays can cause cataracts, age related macular degeneration, benign growths, named pterygia, on the eye surface and the cancer of the skin around the eyelids. According to the results of some research the blue light can also cause eye damage.

Sunburn doesn’t occur only fro the skin rather it happens to eyes as well. The effect of the ultraviolet rays increase exponentially when they are reflected from the surface of water, sand, snow or pavement and when they get exposed to the large amount of the UV rays then the eyes sunburn occurs. The corneal sunburn is named as Photokeratitis and the sunburn of the area covering the eye is named as the Photoconjunctivitis. The eyes sunburn, though would go away in one or two days, can be very painful in some cases and starts after almost few hours.

Though they are rare but the chances of extreme Photokeratitis exist in which snow blindness occurs. This results in the temporary blindness and happens mostly to the skiers and the climbers.

You can cure your eyes by following these small but affective tips. Don’t forget to wear sunglasses when you are going out in the sun especially in the early afternoon and at the high altitude because at these points they are most intense even when sky is covered with clouds as UV could pass from them as well. Always buy the good quality sunglasses from a reputable dealer which could protect your eyes upto 99% of the UV rays. Select those which could reduce the glare and their lenses are larger enough to protect the eye from the most of the angles. If you select the colored lenses then select red, blue orange yellow or amber as these are the best blockers.

Always keep spare sunglasses with you as they are easy to forget, misplace or break. Also war some cap. And last but not the least is to wear the goggles while swimming as they would protect your eyes from the sun as well as the chlorine present in the water for the cleaning purpose
